Sustainability at lambda9
Our working hours are helping to protect the climate! In cooperation with Climate Nuts, every hour we work contributes to the creation of a food forest in Africa, which protects the climate and benefits the local population.

Every line of code we write helps plant trees
Climate neutrality is on everyone’s lips. The team at lambda9 has also set itself the goal of working and living in a climate-neutral way in the long run. Despite all our efforts to keep our CO₂ emissions as low as possible, it remains a challenge in Germany today to make private life and business operations completely emission-free.
But we are not powerless – we can and want to take action. That’s why we came up with something special: for every hour worked at lambda9, a fixed contribution goes toward establishing a food forest in the village of Amina in Sierra Leone. This project, carried out in cooperation with Climate Nuts, captures CO₂ in trees and soil, thereby offsetting our carbon footprint. At the same time, it sustainably improves the living conditions of the people on the ground.

About our partner
Climate Nuts is an innovative climate startup based in Germering near Munich, Germany that is dedicated to addressing humanity’s central challenges: climate change, biodiversity loss, and global poverty.
Their approach: planting food forests in Africa that not only capture CO₂ and promote biodiversity, but also provide local communities with income and food security. At the same time, Climate Nuts invests in the holistic development of its partner villages to enable sustainable growth for people, nature, and the climate.
Our Progress: Done!
For every working hour, we invest in planting a food forest – one working hour meets approximately 30 kg CO₂. This way, we have achieved our goal this year: the compensation of 300 tons of CO₂. This target is the approximate emission value of the company in one year, including the private emissions of all employees.
Previous Achievements This is what we achieved in 2024
-
200tons of CO₂ where offset by our food forest last year. This meant that we had already achieved our annual target by July!
-
25goats were provided to the village of Amina, thanks to our support. They are improving local livelihoods in a sustainable way—through natural soil cultivation and additional sources of income.
-
500 +residents of the village of Amina have already benefited from the food forest: the numerous fruits and nuts not only serve as food, but also as a sustainable source of income.
How villages become Impact Villages
From reforestation to livestock farming, Climate Nuts undertakes a wide range of initiatives to transform Amina and other villages into so-called Impact Villages: resilient communities where per capita income is tripled in the long term from 50 to 150 euros, and residents are empowered to make their own investments. It is an incredibly important project that we cannot fully present here in such brevity. Therefore, be sure to visit the Impact Villages website:
More about Impact Villages
The food forest Good for the Climate and People
In the northeast of Sierra Leone lies the food forest planted with your support, where a wide variety of fruits and nuts are grown. Among them are coconuts, mangoes, cashews, as well as peanuts and ginger cultivated in the soil. Right next to it is the village of Amina, whose residents can use the harvested fruits both for trade and for their own needs.
The food forest is a true all-rounder for people and the climate. It offers numerous benefits:
Effective climate protection through CO₂ storage
Local cultivation of fruits and nuts
Income for the local population
A home for wildlife
Economic growth for the region
And the forest keeps on growing! While we started in 2024 with an area of 3.4 hectares, by 2025 we were able to expand it to a total of 13.4 hectares. Follow the link below to access an interactive view of the forest area on Google Maps (note: the outline currently still shows the original 3.4 hectares).

Every hour we work for you benefits our food forest project in Sierra Leone. Your processes also benefit in terms of sustainability: through savings in (paper) resources and more efficient, fully digital workflows. This makes working with lambda9 doubly sustainable!
